Willis Kewanwytewa White Chin Cradle Katsina

Willis Kewanwytewa was one of Jimmie Kewanwytewa’s sons. He was born in 1924. When I wrote my first piece on master carver, Jimmie K., in 2003, Willis was very helpful. Willis was a fine carver in his own right. I’ve owned full-figure katsinam by him. This is a putsqatihu or cradle katsina depicting the seldom seen White Chin katsina. I don’t know the Hopi for this figure. The carving is 6 3/4″ tall and 3 1/2″” wide. There are some wisps of white feathers on the top of the head. The carving is signed on the bottom with his full name.
