Vernon Mansfield Very Large Cow

This was a real find. A very large Wakas or Cow katsina by the late, great Vernon Mansfield. Note that this katsina was made before his body types became symmetrical and stylized. The Carving is 20 1/2″ tall to the top of the orange and blue wooden feather. It is 8″ wide from ear tip to ear tip. There is modest wear to the paint here and there and a crack in the fox tail on the back of the carving as shown in photo 3. This katsina is meant to be a wall hanger. He doesn’t stand without museum putty on the feet. It is signed “Vernon M” under the kilt.
