Tawaquaptewa Gourd Rattle – Corn and Cloud Motifs
$875.00
Wilson Tawaquaptewa (1873-1960) was one of the most highly regarded katsina carvers in history. There are several examples of his katsinam on this site. He also occasionally made gourd rattles and other objects of material culture. This rattle with vibrant yellow background paint has corn and cloud symbols. It rattles well when shaken. The design on three sides is in good shape; the fourth is worn. Hung on its original string, the worn side is not visible. The rattle is 8 1/2″ wide and 5 1/2″ wide.
