Sheryl Susunkewa – A Gathering of Hopi Maidens with Moon
$495.00
We’ve long been admirers of Sheryl Susunkewa’s work. She is the daughter of Manfred Susunkewa, the originator of the Traditional-Style katsina movement. This painting is an evocative piece depicting a gathering of Hopi Manas or Maidens with a beautiful moon in the background. The painting is done with acrylic on canvas and is 8″ by 8″ square. The canvas is mounted on a custom pine frame. Hopi maidens have many roles in Hopi culture ranging from making baskets, grinding corn, and participating in diverse rituals. They are known world-wide for their butterfly whorl hairdos or poli’ini. The painting is signed “S Susunkewa 25.”
