Shawn Deel – Miniature Mongwu or Great Horned Owl

Master Carver Shawn Deel recently began making miniatures. Here’s a fine little Mongwu or Great Horned Owl katsina. The carving is 3 3/8″ tall. He has feathers on his head and a fuzzy cloth ruff around the neck. It is signed with his initials on the bottom of the kilt. Shawn is always experimenting, trying something different. He is featured in an article by Russ Hoover and myself in the October/ November 2024 issue of Native American Art magazine.
