Mavasta Honyouti – Kermit the Paakwa (Frog) Skateboard Deck

Mavasta Honyouti is one the most creative artists working today. He carves elaborate ultra-realistic katsina scenes, creates paintings and books, and in this case has painted a skateboard deck with Kermit the Paakwa (Hopi for Frog). As a middle school teacher, Mavasta’s students love it when he combines Hopi symbolism with American pop culture. Here Kermit is surrounded by Hopi cloud and rain symbols and Kermit himself is dressed and painted as a Katsina. The deck is 28″ long and 7 1/2″ wide. As the photos of the back show, this deck was a “Spider Man” deck that had substantial use before Mavasta turned into an art object.
