  • Description

One of my favorite carvings by Manfred Susunkewa is the Kooninkatsintaqa or Male Havasupai. Manfred was the originator of the return to traditional katsinam in the 1970s. His work is in many museums and he has the honor of being named an “Arizona Living Treasure.” This Havasupai figure is quite large at 13 1/2″ tall including the feathers. It is 7″ wide from horn tip to horn tip. The colors on this katsina are especially beautiful. It is signed on the bottom of the kilt, “msusunkewa” with his Spider Clan symbol. I purchased this from Manfred at the 2023 Heard Show in Phoenix.
