Lenno Polingyumptewa – Soyal Katsina

$550.00

  • Description

Soyal figures are infrequently carved. This one has been meticulously created by Lenno Polingyumptewa. Lenno is Roadrunner Clan from Sitsomovi and has been carving since the late 1980s. For years he sold through Joseph and Janice Day at Tsakurshovi. A major mentor for Lenno was the late Randy Howato. This carving is 14″ tall to the top of the red structure and prominent feather. It is 3 1/4″ wide.

The Soyal or Solstice katsina is referred to as the figure who opens the Katsina season. He is carrying a rattle in his right hand and a stick with attached feathers in his left. The katsina is unsigned, but I acquired it directly from Lenno. Beautifully yet simply carved.
