Large Plateau Salt n Pepper Bag

Large Plateau beaded bag with what is often called a “salt and pepper design.” This term refers to the random specks of diverse colors. The beaded side also shows arrows and plant motifs. I’ve been told that at ceremonies the use of random beads in such bags is in homage to past beaders who are no longer with us. It is recycling their left over beads. 

The reverse of the bag has some unusual cloth applique with hearts, leaves, and geometric designs. This bag has a lot going on!

It is 17 1/2″ long by 13 1/2″ wide not including the original hide handles. The interior is a polka dot design as shown in photo 4. There is very modest moth damage to the red wool on the reverse side of the bag. All beads are intact.
