LaDamian Polingyumptewa – Elaborate Scavenger Katsina

LaDamian Polingyumptewa is son of Lenno Polingyumptewa and the grandson of Randy Howato. He has clearly learned well from his forebears. This Scavenger or Uhuhu katsina has exceptional detailing. Note the four vibrantly colored spikes on the head, the sun and moon symbols on the side of the head and face. He is also carrying a knife-like object in one hand and crook with attached shells in the other. On his back is a carved and painted burden basket. He has a rabbit fur ruff. The katsina is 11 3/4″ tall and 3 3/4″ wide. It is signed “LP 26” on the right foot. The carving has a cord for hanging. LaDamian is Greasewood Clan and from Hotevilla.
