Walter Howato – Huge Highly Detailed Palhikwmana – 26″ Tall
$3,650.00
This is the largest and most elaborate carving by Walter Howato that I’ve had. It is done in his earlier realistic style before he moved to distressing and antiquing his carvings. This Palhikwmana is 26 1/2″ tall including the feathers. It is 12 1/2″ wide and 9″ deep including the outstretched arms. Note the exceptional detailing on this carving: the elaborate tablita, the folds carved into the garment, the handwoven belt, the necklace with naja, the large feathers in both hands, etc. The carving is signed on the feet with his Reed Clan symbol and “W. Howato .” This is an historically important work by master carver, Walter Howato. He is featured in my 2019 book, “The Great Tradition of Hopi Katsina Carvers, 1880-Present.” As shown in the last photo, the tablita can be removed for shipping. It fits snugly.
