Eric Kayquoptewa Kowaako or Chicken

Finely made Kowaako or Chicken by experienced carver, Eric Kayquoptewa. He told me he’s been carving for 32 years. This Chicken is 9 1/2″ to the top of the comb with the long feather adding another 2″. It is precisely carved with white material and feathers on the head. The arms and legs suggest dance motion. Eric told me he is from Hotevilla and “my clan is spider with bear and blue associated with us as well.” The bottom of the left foot has Spider and Bear claw symbols. The katsina stands stably but also has a string for hanging.
