Jimmie Koots – Dynamic 1950s Mosayur or Buffalo Katsina
$2,500.00
This strong version of a Buffalo or Mosayur katsina from the 1950s is by renowned carver, Jimmie Koots. His distinctive grey douma/ grey base paint makes it clear that it is his work. The carving is depicted in full dance motion and is 12 1/2″ tall to the tip of his horns. In his right hand he holds a rattle and in his left a lightning stick. He has a fur-like material attached to his head. He is firmly attached to a professional metal base made by “Artifacts” a well-known stand maker. Great example of a Koots katsina. See my chapter on him in our book, “The Great Tradition of Hopi Katsina Carvers.” (2019, Rio Nuevo Press).
