Cimmaron Grover Wiktsina or Grease Katsina

This katsina is a Runner, known as the Wiktsina or Grease Katsina. He challenges members of the audience at plaza dances to a foot race. The Katsina is smeared with grease and soot and if the foe loses, his punishment is that he is smeared with messy grease. This version by Cimmaron Grover is done in his minimalist style. The back is flat, the arms partially extended, and the feet are tiny. The carving has a rabbit fur ruff and other fur on the knobs of his head. The height is 11 3/4″ including the fur decoration. Paints are mineral and vegetal.
