Charles Badger Martin – Hopi Maiden Bronze

This bronze sculpture is by Charles Badger Martin. He was an artist who created a number of fine sculptures with Native American themes. This piece is a precisely and artistically rendered portrait of a Hopi maiden. The maiden’s face, with traditional butterfly whorl hairdo and tuionaqa earrings, is exceptionally well done. As shown in photo 4, this piece is number 1 in an edition of 6, and dated 1974. As shown in photo 3, there is a slight amount of oxidation on the one side of the bust. I’ve owned this sculpture for years and the minor amount of oxidation has not changed.
