Aaron Fredericks – Exceptional Red-Bearded Longhair – SOLD

Aaron Fredericks has long been a master carver. This is the seldom-carved, Red-Bearded Longhair katsina, one of the many versions of Angaktsinam or Longhairs. This carving has exceptional details which require many photos to depict. Start with the red beard itself done with many deep striations. The katsina is holding a rattle which moves in his right hand and two ears of corn and corn plant in his left. The wood-carved ears of corn have real cornhusk surrounding them. On his left wrist is a real leather cuff with attached turquoise stone. For me the real crowning detail is the pipe attached to the back of the katsina to be used ceremonially. Please review all the photos to appreciate the full details. The carving is 11 1/2″ tall with the yellow feather bringing the full height to 15 3/4″. The katsina is signed “AF” with a clan symbol on the bottom of both feet. It has a loop for hanging. I acquired it from Aaron directly.
