1930s Zuni Grandmother Katsina
$6,500.00
This unusual looking figure is Hemokatsiki or Ahe’a, the Grandmother of the Zuni katsinam. She has quite the profile. She is carrying ears on corn in both hands because she is said to always carry food for starving children. This carving is quite large at 16 1/2″ tall. Her arms are attached with nails and she is wearing elaborate clothing which is typical for Zuni katsinam. Her dress is a woolen garment with embroidered decoration. She is also wearing a hand-painted belt. satin-like cape and leather boots. I date her to the 1930s.
