Mavasta Honyouti – Sculpture with Three Heotos

Hopi artist Mavasta Honyouti is endlessly creative. Here he has created a sculpture 4 3/4″ tall depicting – as he told me – two male Heoto katsinam (also spelled Hewto) and one female Heoto. The female is wearing a dark brown dress and the males, lighter colored kilts. The males have rather prominent bellies which extend a bit. The base for the katsinam is carved with openings across the entire structure – a challenging task to execute. It is signed on the base “MHonyouti.”
