Lenno Polingyumptewa – Ewtoto, Katsina Father – SOLD
Ewtoto figures are infrequently carved. This one has been meticulously created by Lenno Polingyumptewa. Lenno is Roadrunner Clan from Sitsomovi and has been carving since the late 1980s. For years he sold through Joseph and Janice Day at Tsakurshovi. A major mentor for Lenno was the late Randy Howato. This carving is 10 3/4″ tall including the feathers. It is 3 1/4″ wide.
Ewtoto is referred to as the Father of the Katsinam. He has major roles in Powamu and Niman and many other ceremonies. He is carrying in his right hand two important ritual objects, a mongko or chief’s stick and a canteen. In his left hand he has a red fringed bag made of hide. The katsina is unsigned, but I acquired it directly from Lenno.
