Lenno Polingyumptewa – Rare Ahola, Major Priest
$495.00
Ahola figures are rarely carved. This one has been meticulously created by Lenno Polingyumptewa. Lenno is Roadrunner Clan from Sitsomovi and has been carving since the late 1980s. For years he sold through Joseph and Janice Day at Tsakurshovi. A major mentor for Lenno was the late Randy Howato. This carving is 13″ tall including the beautifully done feathers. It is 7″ wide.
As noted by Alph Secakuku, “Ahola is a priest katsina of high order. He … is an elderly wise chief. He is one of the winter solstice katsinam who appear at Powamuya to open the katsina season… As a messenger, Ahola carries to the supernatural beings prayers for a long and healthful life, and peace in the world.” (from “Following the Sun and Moon”, p. 6. 1995). The katsina is signed on the base of the kilt.
