Wilburt Talashoma Handprint or Potcarrier – Joseph Day Collection – SOLD
$495.00
Wilburt Talashoma Sr. was an under-appreciated carver. His figures have exceptional expressiveness and personality. He was the brother in William Ingvaya Quotskuyva (Janice Day’s father) and the father of Lowell Talashoma Sr. This katsina is sometimes called a Handprint and at others a Potcarrier. Note he does have large black pot suspended from his back. He is said to be a Runner katsina. The katsina is 10″ tall including the feathers. This carving has a lot of detail including carefully carved leggings, fox tail, rattle and long stick. It is a wall-hanger. It is not signed but I bought it directly from Joseph Day (Tsakurshovi) who acquired it from Wilburt. Wilburt was a veteran of World War II who served in France and Germany.
