Mavasta Honyouti is one the most talented Hopi artists working today. He makes complex katsina sculptures, bas relief paintings, skateboard decks, and beyond. Recently he has created a series called, “Between the Dances.” This painting of a Palhik Mana on wood is one from this series. The figure is putting on yellow sox because the ground in the plaza has become too hot. The yellow sox cover the yellow paint on her feet. The wooden plaque is 6″ by 4″. As with all his work, very precisely made. The title is included on the back along with MHonyouti.com.
This item was on loan to the Wheelwright Museum in Santa Fe from January until June 2025 as part of Mavasta’s show, “Coming Home.”
