  • Description

Neil David Sr. is one of the great carvers depicting clowns of different types. Here we have a Koyaala or Koshare looking like a quarterback about to throw a watermelon pass. The carving is 10 1/4″ tall and 7 1/2″ wide. It has a painted cloth loincloth front and back. It is signed with his stylized Ns and a date that looks like 1985. From the collection of Brendelle and Fred Walden. Neil is featured in my book, “The Great Tradition of Hopi Katsina Carvers, 1880 – Present,” Rio Nuevo, Tucson.
