In my opinion, Vernon Mansfield was one of the great Traditional Style katsina artists. This is one of his larger carvings, measuring 19” tall by 12” wide, not including the feathers. It represents the beloved Palhikwmana or Water Drinking Maiden. It is not signed but is clearly his distinctive work. The hues on this carving are subtle and pleasing. It will be a centerpiece on a wall. One of his best. From an Arizona collection.
