Travis Tubinaghtewa Sikyatsuku – Yellow Clown

$395.00

  • Description
This very creative Sikyatsuku or Yellow Clown is by Travis Tubinaghtewa. Travis has really pushed the comic effects on this carving, with the bite out of the hotdog in his left hand along with a smoking cigarette. The smoke coming from the cigarette is actually a tuft of cotton. On his back is painted "Ka-Hopi" referring to the Clown's role depicting "un-Hopi" behavior such as gluttony and abuse of substances. Travis spent a lot of time on this carving. The Clown has corn husk attachments to his hair, a canvas pouch around his neck, and a canvas wrap around his hips. The carving is 9 3/4" tall. It is unsigned but I bought it directly from Travis. He is from the village of Sitsomovi, First Mesa, and is Deer Clan. He primarily creates paintings, but he told me, "I like to take breaks and carve in the traditional style.”
