This is a very rare figure, which many Hopi do not recognize. It is an Issawkatsina or Coyote. The maker is Tay Polequaptewa, who has been a very skilled katsina artist for years. The carefully applied pelt on the head is rabbit fur. Not also the very precise painting on the snout, kilt, and body. The katsina has green parrot feathers on his head and leather bandeliers with miniature shells attached. He has a cloth ruff with hand-tied leather knots. Signed on the bottom of each foot. 11 1/2" tall to the top of the ears.
