Ron Preston Yavapai Rattle

I bought this rattle from Ron Preston years ago. He is Hopi/ Yavapai Apache. It is 11” long by 4 3/4” deep.

This is what Ron said about the rattle: 

“I am Yavapai Apache, and Hopi. The pictured rattle is styled after the gourd rattles of the Yavapai, Hualapai, and Yuman People. Used to accompany the singers of bird songs. The holes allow the rattle to be a bit louder than those with out holes. It is a slightly different shaped gourd than what would commonly be used.”
