Quinston Taylor – Large Maasaw Pair

Hopi carver Quinston Taylor is Fire Clan and lives in Kykotsmovi. He has created this dynamic pair of Maasaw katsinam. The male figure is 12 3/4″tall to the top of his head with the paho/ prayer feathers adding 3″. The male is carrying a bark torch in one hand. He also has an abalone pendant around his neck. The female Maasaw is 13″ tall with the prominent feather adding 1 3/4″. She is holding a gourd used as a resonator in one hand. Maasaw is said to have greeted the Hopi when they entered this, the Fourth World. He is also said to have taught the Hopi how to use fire and grow corn. This Maasaw pair are referred to as Death Spirits which accounts for their eerie, skeletal appearance.
