Peter Jones Traditional Smoker

$325.00

  • Description

Peter’s pottery sculptures all come with names. This one is named, “Traditional Smoker.”  The figure is just under 7” tall. An unusual feature of his sculptures is that the eyes seem to travel with the viewer and the expressions change depending on viewpoint.

Peter Jones (born 1947) is a skilled potter and sculptor from the Beaver Clan, Onondaga Nation, one of the Iroquois tribes.  He lives on the Seneca reservation in western New York State. We have collected his work for over 20 years.

Peter is a recipient of the “Excellence in Iroquois Arts” award presented by the Iroquois Museum, Howes Cave, NY. He studied under Hopi artist Otellie Loloma while attending the Institute of American Indian Art in Santa Fe, NM. His work is in the permanent collections of the Iroquois, Heard, and Everson Museums, and the Museum of Anthropology in Frankfurt, Germany.
