Mavasta Honyouti Virtual Butterfly Dance
$2,500.00
Mavasta Honyouti is one of the most creative artists working today. He often takes “mainstream” cultural artifacts and gives them a distinctively Hopi twist. Here he has created what he calls, a “Virtual Butterfly Dance,” using a Zoom format. At the bottom of the frame are the usual Zoom options of “mute, video, participants, share, chat, record, and leave meeting.” The top row on the “screen” is three Hopi men with subtitles of “Dad Duty,” “Htown2020” referring to Hotevilla, and “City Hopi.” The middle row of butterfly dancers are subtitled, “Flower Girl,” “Mountain Mana,” and “Mano2020.” The bottom row is three more Hopi men with subtitles of “Beach Taha,” “Drummer Dude,” and “Hopi Vibes.” The Zoom panel is painted on basswood with acrylics and signed on the back with a wood-burning tool. The dimensions are 13″ by 9 1/2″, essentially the size of a small laptop. Great innovation by Mavasta!
