Kory Jean Large Rattle Head Kooyemsi

Kory Jean is a young Hopi carver from Munqapi (Moenkopi). He shared with me that he is “Maswungwa” or Maasaw Clan. This Kooyemsi or Mudhead is both a full-sized katsina and a rattle, in that his head is a gourd that rattles. The figure is quite tall at 15 1/2″ tall and is signed, “K. Jean” with a Maasaw symbol.
