Hopi Tasapkatsina Variant – 1940s-50s
$2,750.00
Barton Wright identifies this katsina in his book, “Kachinas, A Hopi Artist’s Documentary” as a Tasap or Navajo katsina. He wrote, “This katsina was apparently inspired one of the Navajo Gods, Naastadji.” (page 151). The arms are fully extended giving the carving a dynamic presence. Note the elaborate tripod on the head. The painting on the body, kilt and boots are especially colorful. 11 ¾” tall including the circular base. By a “previously known” Hopi carver.
