Henry Shelton – Rare Globe Mallow Katsina or Kopon
$1,350.00
This is only the second Globe Mallow or Kopon katsina I’ve had in 30 years. Globe Mallow is a Runner or Racer katsina. The globe mallow plant is native to Hopiland. This carving is by one of the great artists is Hopi katsina history: Henry Shelton. He was one of the individuals who moved katsina carving into the Ultra-Realistic style. Case in point: note all the details and accoutrements on the head, arms, knees, etc. This strong figure is 12″ tall with the base adding 3/4″. It is signed on the base, “H. Shelton, Oraibi, Ariz. Globe Mallow, 3rd Mesa.” Henry’s work represents an important time in Hopi katsina history.
