Ernie Moore – Large Palhikwmana – SOLD
$0.00
Ernie Moore (1934-2009) came to katsina carving late in life. He immediately showed exceptional skill because of his previous career as a draftsman. One example of his precise carving and painting is this beautiful rendition of a Palhikwmana. The height of this carving is 16″ including the feathers and the width is 9″, again including the feathers. The piece is signed “Ernie” with the symbols for his Reed and Fire clans. A very similar example of a Palhikwmana by Ernie appears on page 181 of my book, “The Great Tradition of Hopi Katsina Carvers.” Ernie once sold a 20-piece set representing a Palhikwmana ceremony to the American Museum of Natural History in NYC.
