Darance Kwikwilyaqa or Imitator or Mocker

I believe this to be the Kuwan or Colorful version of the Kwikwilyaqa as the normal color is black. This fiqure brings considerable comic effect to ceremonies with his imitative mockery of nearby bystanders. Master carver, Darance Chimerica, has rendered this version with a beautiful pale green color. The katsina is 10 1/8″ tall. He has the usual cedar bark on the top of his head. Darance is featured in our book, “The Great Tradition of Hopi Katsina Carvers, 1880 – Present.” The katsina is signed on the bottom of the kilt.
