Cimmaron Grover – Huhuwa or Cross-Legged – J and J Day Collection – SOLD
$0.00
Cimmaron Grover has an immediately identifiable style that is all his own. His unusual creativity shows in this rendition of a Huhuwa or Cross-Legged katsina. As Barton Wright wrote in his “Complete Guide,” this katsina is “meant to represent a Musangnavi man who was badly crippled but of such a kind and gentle spirit that he was made a katsina.” This rendition is 12 1/2″ to the top of the feathers. Note the shiny fabric flowers on his forehead, the lightning stick in his left hand, the earrings, and his fully extended, comical tongue. Cimmaron is featured in our book, “The Great Tradition of Hopi Carvers, 1880-Present.” This katsina came from the Joseph and Janice Day collection.
