Charles Fredericks – Warrior Kooyemsi – SOLD
$0.00
Charles Fredericks (1870s-1964) was Tawaquaptewa’s brother and White Bear Fredericks’ father. He was a fine carver in his own right. This is a Warrior Kooyemsi as indicated by the spear in one hand and the strung bow in the other. The spear has a metal tip. The katsina is just under 10″ tall. He is wearing a bandolier with small shells attached front and back. The fringed belt is made of reddish felt. The moccasins have leather fringe attached. On the bottom of the right foot “Hopi Katsina” is written in pencil and on the right foot is “Netherton,” perhaps the name of the original owner. An excellent example of Charles’ work. He is featured in our book “The Great Tradition of Hopi Katsina Carvers.”
