Aaron Fredericks – Exceptional Tanaktsina – SOLD

This is a rare and beautiful katsina by master carver, Aaron Fredericks. Aaron identifies it as the Tanaktsina, a Cloud Guard, four of which appear in the Sa’lako ceremony. Note the exquisite detail on this katsina, a hallmark of Aaron’s work. For example, the vegetation in the hands are willow branches, with hand-tied greenery attached. Aaron told me that when these Katsinam appear “they raise the willow branches toward the sky and then swiftly pull them back down.” Note also the heishi bead necklace with abalone and the heishi bracelet. The feather work is complex and superb. This katsina is quite large at 17” plus the 1.5″ base which Aaron has signed with his name and clan symbols. A special work of art.
