Lalayhoya or Sheep Herder Katsina – 1940s
$2,350.00
Rarely seen, Lalayhoya or Sheep Herder katsina from the 1940s. It is 10 ½” high including the feathers. Lots of detail on this excellent carving including precise criss-crossed painting on the body and legs, the polka dots on the calves, the carved three-dimensional moccasins, and the stick with feathers attached to the head. The figure is also holding a strung bow in his left hand (to protect the herd). The artist “previously known” spent a lot time on this special katsina. There are old collection numbers on the bottom of the feet.
