Mavasta – Between the Dances
$495.00
Mavasta Honyouti is one the most talented Hopi artists working today. He makes complex katsina sculptures, bas relief paintings, skateboard decks, and beyond. Recently he has created a series called, “Between the Dances.” This painting of a Poli Mana on wood is from this series. It is entitled on the back, “Yellow Socks.”
Mavasta explained to me that in this painting the sand in the plaza has gotten too hot for the dancer. So the Poli Mana is putting on yellow socks to match her foot paint before she returns to the next dance cycle. Such a subtle, graceful little scene! 6″ by 4″.
