Cimmaron Grover Spider Grandmother
$495.00
This is the rarest of the rare: a Spider Grandmother. She was made by Cimmaron Grover, who is known for creating very unusual figures. She is wearing a hand-painted canvas cloth garment and leather boot wraps. She also bears earrings and a representation of a jacla necklace. The tip of fir tree on the necklace is really fir not plastic. She is quite large at over 15″ tall and 7″ wide at the arms. Cimmaron uses gritty mineral pigments that can flake off here and there. There is a bit missing on the edge of her dress.
Cimmaron told me that the white bundle on her head is the nest that holds the baby spiders. For a similar example, see Fewkes’ 1903 BAE report. In my reprint version she occurs on page 118.
